The history of the Woellner Group begins on 23 July 1896. On that day, Eduard Woellner founded Woellner-Werke in Ludwigshafen on the Rhine river, a company that produced cleaning textiles, washing soda, Glauber salt and water glass.

Today, Woellner GmbH & Co. KG produces silicates and special chemicals that are used by the chemical manufacturing industry, for construction chemistry, paints and plasters, and by the paper industry.

Headquartered in Ludwigshafen, the company established another factory in Bad Köstritz, near Gera, in 1993.
